At 7 feet, 8 inches, Southport native Elias 'Nehi' Gore was a towering figure over the city. Gore's relatives and descendants were on hand recently as the N. C. Maritime Museum at Southport opened an exhibit honoring him and his fellow fishermen from the 1940s.
